My Ten Books

My Books

The ten books that have, as the meme goes, “stayed with me.”

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.”

Junior Girl Scout Handbook. The Girl Scouts of the United States. 1963.

“The Girl Scout uniform can only be worn by Girl Scouts who are registered and have a membership card. The way you act when you wear your uniform shows that you really mean your Girl Scout Promise.” Continue reading

The Heart Knows How to Pray

Day of Prayer Gandhi QuoteOn this National Day of Prayer, I am heartened by the idea that no matter our tradition or religion, we can all come together and acknowledge our yearning for harmony. For justice. For whatever need is in our hearts.

I love the quote from Mahatma Gandhi. It echoes one of the mainstays of my own Christian belief, one I have fallen back upon many times when I was at a loss for the “right” words:

“We don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.”  Romans 8:26, New Living Translation of The Bible

Even those of us who don’t believe in a deity surely feel there is a force for good in the world or in nature and can call on it today.

Fingers crossed. God willing. Insha’Allah.
