Pack my bags. I’m moving to New York City, where yesterday an enormous majority of people elected Democratic candidate Bill de Blasio their mayor.
An enormous, multiracial, multicultural, multigendered, big-hearted, optimistic majority of people voted for a man who ran on a platform of inclusiveness and social progress.
Seeing that vast diversity of people stand strong behind de Blasio on the stage as he gave his acceptance speech last night; seeing him embrace his African-American wife, his hugely-Afro-haired son, and his beautiful biracial daughter made my heart soar.
And when I heard de Blasio claim ground for progressivism and justice, then the tears flowed. Continue reading
